New Endowment Funds Fall 2023

Establishing a strong foundation for our community’s future is a vision shared by donors who have endowment funds at The Dayton Foundation. The following funds are some of the new endowments established by donors in recent months to support their special charitable causes and our region, now and in the future.

Air Camp


Air Camp Founders Scholarship awards a middle school student with the opportunity to attend Overnight Air Camp, a program designed to inspire youth to pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields through hands-on experiences in aviation and aeronautics.

CityHeart Designated Fund generates financial support for CityHeart, an organization striving to create positive solutions for homeless, low-income and marginalized individuals in Dayton and Montgomery County.

Friends of the STEM Talent Development Center Fund


Lloyd A. Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund furthers the education of select Dayton Public Schools students who plan to pursue science and engineering careers. The fund serves as a memorial for Lloyd Cox, a longtime Dayton resident who worked for more than 40 years at the Monsanto Dayton Lab and the Mound Laboratory in Miamisburg, Ohio.

Friends of the STEM Talent Development Center Fund supports the development of a STEM Talent Development Center focused on the underserved, underrepresented and new American populations in the region by providing access to STEM-based education programs preparing participants for employment in “in-demand-living wage” careers in the Dayton Region.

Gail Ann Gentile-Lyman Fund generates annual grant distributions for Immaculate Conception Church, a parish devoted to providing service to its neighbors since 1938.

Elaine M. Hothem Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the memory of this longtime Washington-Centerville Public Library employee who enjoyed reading and exploring history. This fund aids students, who are pursuing a major in history, education or library science, in furthering their studies at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

Jahoda Family Fund supports organizations that improve the quality of life for individuals in need by awarding grants for basic human needs, such as food, shelter or early childhood education.

Keep Playing The Game Fund offers tuition assistance for graduate school, professional development and other career-related training opportunities to select sports management alumni of the University of Dayton. This fund continues Dr. Peter J. Titlebaum’s relentless pursuit in aiding the personal and professional development of his students.

Don Sellman Scholarship Fund awards an annual, renewable scholarship to a Franklin High School graduating senior who demonstrates high character and leadership skills. The fund honors Don Sellman, who impacted thousands of students with his positivity, dedication and passion.

The Joanne G. Shank Charitable Fund awards grants to promote literacy and further the development of reading, writing and related literacy skills for children and other causes, as identified by the donor.

Lynn Voisard Hope Fund advances the charitable interests of this Wayne High School alumna by providing grants to nonprofits of her choosing.

Cindy Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund honors Cindy’s dedication to her family as a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a member of her community. This fund awards scholarship assistance to a graduating high school senior in the Miami Valley of Ohio, who demonstrates community service.

The following funds recently were established by individuals who took advantage of the IRA Charitable Rollover, which allows individuals age 70½ or older to transfer up to $100,000 from their IRA to a qualified public charity tax free.
