Four Local Organizations Recognized for Outstanding Community Leadership

The Dayton Foundation is pleased to announce the 2023 recipients of the Award for Excellence in Community Leadership. The award recognizes community groups that have established a Committee-Advised Fund through The Dayton Foundation and are affecting change by demonstrating best practices for community organizing, fundraising, collaboration and strategic planning.

Each of the following 2023 award recipients received $500.

    • Community Foundation of Miami Township, a Dayton Foundation fund since 1998, advanced its focus on helping the community’s youth excel through educational scholarships and fundraising events;
    • Kettering Education Foundation, a component fund of The Dayton Foundation since 1993, made strides in the second phase of its strategic planning goals, including building relationships with district leaders and expanding its board capacity;
    • Tour de Gem, a Dayton Foundation fund since 2018, strove to develop and expand its fundraising program, resulting in nearly $350,000 awarded to its chosen organizations in the last five years, as well as developed a new partnership with the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area; and
    • West Carrollton Education Foundation, a component fund group since 1989, excelled at building its board, funding special projects for district students and supporting the Super World of Work Enrichment Grant, which provided unique opportunities for students with disabilities.

“Each group’s efforts are worth recognizing for their impact and the deep relationships they’ve cultivated with stakeholders and the community at large,” said Lucy Baker, donor relations officer for The Dayton Foundation. “Our sincere thanks to each recipient for leading the way and serving as a model and resource to other Dayton Foundation component funds.”

The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2024 awards program is February 28, 2024. Only Committee-Advised Funds of The Dayton Foundation are eligible for an award, and any member of the community or advisor to a Foundation fund may submit a nomination. Nomination forms will be available in January 2024, or by special request to Lucy Baker at (937) 225-9960.
