The Dayton Foundation Governing Board has approved grants totaling $199,494 to 18 charitable organizations in Greater Dayton as part of the Foundation’s Basic Human Needs Grants process. These grants help nonprofit organizations that assist Greater Dayton individuals and families in need of basic necessities, such as food, shelter, clothing and healthcare. The following organizations recently were awarded grants.
Bellbrook Presbyterian Church ($15,000) to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, butter and eggs to families in need;
CityHeart Corporation ($15,000) to help meet the increased demand for housing, food and transportation by individuals who are homeless or near homeless and have no recordable source of income;
Closet TRANSformation ($10,000) to create a centralized location to house its clothing exchange program that benefits the transgender community;
Clothes That Work ($10,000) to purchase steel-toed boots, non-skid shoes and safe work apparel for students in employment readiness programs;
Expressions of Life ($10,000) to help Dayton residents who are experiencing financial hardship;
Good Shepard Ministries ($7,500) to convert an abandoned property into a recovery home facility;
Graceworks Lutheran Services ($6,000) to purchase a Tovertafel device to assist memory care residents with mid- to late-stage dementia;
Hannah’s Treasure Chest ($17,500) to purchase items for children and families in need, as well as to house pantry items and the initial stocking of items for the Mediation Response Unit Emergency Pantry;
Home is the Foundation ($10,000) to complete additional emergency housing repairs for qualified Preble County senior citizens;
I Am Boundless ($10,000) to create an outdoor recreation space for youth with autism and related behavioral health challenges;
Learn to Earn Dayton ($15,000) to develop a comprehensive English Language Learners programming specifically for non-English speaking parents of Dayton Public School students;
Miami Valley Meals ($5,000) to purchase packaging materials to support the prepared meals program for low-income adults and families;
OpenGate Urban Initiatives ($15,000) to support an out-of-school educational program and its expansion, including providing food, utilities and additional staffing;
Pink Ribbon Girls ($7,500) to provide free organic meals and round trip transportation to medical appointment for Dayton individuals and families impacted by a breast or gynecological cancer diagnosis;
Rainbow Elder Care of Greater Dayton ($14,994) to help launch Phase 1 of Q+ Youth Center, a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth, by funding data collection, a development campaign, branding and a website;
Norma J. Ross Memorial Foundation ($15,000) to provide transportation and/or gas cards for individuals to attend mammogram screenings and testing appointments, as well as provide financial support for uninsured and underinsured women to attend additional required testing;
Threads of Miami Valley ($6,000) to purchase adult underwear, towels and soap; and
Xenia Area Fish Food Pantry ($10,000) to support additional staffing expenses to assist with Greene County’s growing emergency food needs.
