The Dayton Foundation Names Chair and New Governing Board Members
The Dayton Foundation has named a new chair and two new members to its Governing Board, which provides stewardship for the Foundation and its charitable activities.
Succeeding J. Norman Eckstein as Governing Board chair is Craig J. Brown, who will serve an 18-month term. A Governing Board member since 2009, Brown has chaired the Foundation’s Finance Committee and most recently served as Board vice chair and a member of the Executive Committee. Brown is the retired senior vice president, treasurer and CFO of The Standard Register Company.
Brown’s strong commitment to doing good for the region is evident in his many community activities, as well as in his involvement with The Dayton Foundation. He currently serves on the boards of CareSource, Citywide Development, The Dayton Region New Market Fund and the YMCA of Greater Dayton, where he has been a board member for over 25 years and is a past chairman. He previously served on the boards of Dayton Ballet, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, Family Services Association and the Dayton Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The new Governing Board members are Thomas J. Becker and George E. Forest.
Becker is a native of Dayton and the CEO of Becker Electric Supply. The company was founded in 1920 by Becker’s grandfather, John A. Becker, and is a wholesale distributor of electrical products, automation controls and commercial lighting. An active member of the Greater Dayton community, Becker currently serves on the Dayton Business Committee and is a board member of the Life Enrichment Center. He also previously served on the board of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.
Lieutenant Colonel George E. Forest retired in 2006 after serving more than 40 years of continuous active duty in the United States Air Force, retiring as the director of logistics for the Special Operations Forces Group. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a senior acquisition manager for Serco-North America until 2014. Throughout his career, Forest received numerous military citations, commendations and other awards, including a Bronze Star for his combat actions in Iraq.
Forest currently serves as president of the Wright "B" Flyer, Inc. and treasurer of the Miami Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a life member of the Urban League, the NAACP and the American Legion. He also is a member of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and a mason.

IN HIS WORDS
“Few people understand The Dayton Foundation’s central role in numerous community efforts, including education, The Job Center, the Schuster Center and RiverScape, to name a few. The Dayton Region might look very different were it not for the Foundation and its more than 3,500 donors and their charitable funds.” – Fred Setzer, Jr., donor and former Governing Board chair
