The Gerry E. Griffith, Sr., Scholarship is a four-year scholarship designed to stimulate interest in the field of education as an equally exciting and rewarding profession. By enabling young students to pursue undergraduate studies in education, the Gerry E. Griffith Sr. Scholarship, offered by the Faykus Foundation, hopes to help circumvent the teacher shortage that is currently plaguing the United States. This scholarship provides education majors with financial support as they become the future education leaders of tomorrow and beyond.
The scholarship was developed in honor of the incomparable Gerry E. Griffith, Sr., whose journey of exceptional educational leadership spans 52 years and counting. Mr. Griffith is a pillar of the Dayton education community having dedicated his professional life to nurturing, influencing and improving the wellbeing and academic success of every student he’s ever served, be it in a teaching or administrative capacity. The marriage of Mr. Griffith’s leadership principles, faith, ethics and core values formed the compass by which his collective educational experiences and practices were navigated. This has unapologetically positioned him to stay true to his passion amid the myriad of challenges, choices and changes that continue to shape the landscape and culture of success within educational institutions. Overall, Gerry E. Griffith, Sr.'s, remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on the field of education, one that is strengthened by legacy and that will make an impression on future generations of students and education professionals.
The Gerry E. Griffith, Sr., Scholarship is open to graduates of Stivers School of the Arts who have been accepted or are seeking acceptance into a four-year undergraduate education program. The scholarship will be awarded to applicants who graduated with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and who demonstrate academic aptitude, leadership qualities, financial need and most importantly, a genuine passion and heart for the education career path.
Applicants must:
- be a graduating senior from Stivers School for the Arts,
- plan to major in education,
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 based upon a 4.0 scale, and
- be accepted to a four-year college or university.
Financial need will be considered if all else is equal.
