Joan B. DeLon National Honor Society Scholarship

Joan DeLon was employed by Kettering Schools as an English teacher in the 1960s through the 1990s. She worked at Fairmont West and Kettering Fairmont High School. For many years she was co-advisor to Fairmont's National Honor Society. She instilled pride in her students and in her own children and grandchildren. Her daughter, Sue, is a fifth grade math and science teacher in Springboro. Her son, David, is a history teacher and former administrator in Kettering. Her oldest granddaughter, Kate, is a science teacher in the Sycamore School District of Hamilton County. Her youngest, Beth, is a senior nursing major at the University of Pittsburgh with plans for graduate school and becoming a nurse practitioner.

Applicants must:

• be a graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont High School
• be a member of the National Honor Society, with preference given to teacher education majors, but all majors are welcome to apply, and
• be accepted to a two- or four-year technical school, college or university.

Financial need will be considered if all else is equal.
