Oakwood Schools Foundation - Wanda Wahlman Ford Memorial Scholarship

Wanda Wahlman Ford lived in Oakwood her entire life. She was born in a house where Dorothy Lane Market stands today, moving after marriage to her permanent residence on Monterey Avenue. She was a loving wife to Marvin “Bud” Ford and mother to sons Charles and Mark. Wanda also was a passionate advocate for Oakwood and its outstanding school system. She was a graduate of the class of 1946 and for over 20 years served as secretary to the superintendent of Oakwood City Schools. In retirement she continued her service, working to enhance the school’s alumni network. In 2001, she was recognized as the Oakwood Historical Society’s Super Citizen. Her passions in high school were debate, public speaking and theater. She passed on that passion to her son, Charles, who credits his Oakwood debate experience as the driving force in his successful career in the United States diplomatic service. Ambassador Charles Ford and his wife, Lillian, have established this scholarship in her name to annually recognize an Oakwood high school senior with high achievement in these areas.
